Biography
NZ completed her BSc in Biological Sciences at Imperial College London, during which she found the wide range of modules fascinating but also struggled to pinpoint a specific research interest because there were just so many interesting areas to choose from!
She eventually landed on neuroscience and followed that interest to do an MRes in Brain Sciences at UCL. During her MRes in the Davidson lab (Institute of Ophthalmology), she worked on a rare inherited eye disease, which really kickstarted her interest in transcriptomics and bioinformatics. After her MRes, she continued working on inherited eye diseases as a research assistant in the Hardcastle lab (Institute of Ophthalmology), picking up experience in transcriptomics, variant analysis, and DNA methylation.
She’s now doing her PhD in the Ryten lab, where she's applying her previous skills to tackle new diseases and mechanisms.
